Black Lifts Hawks Past Black Bears

Jan 29, 2022

The Johnstown Tomahawks ran away with a 2-1 overtime win Saturday night on the road against the Maryland Black Bears.

Despite both teams putting up a combined 27 shots, the 1st period ended scoreless, with Maryland outshooting Johnstown 14-13.

It wasn’t until 14:19 into the 2nd period when Egan Schmitt opened the scoring to put Johnstown up and on the board. Maryland had a power play chance late in the period, but couldn’t tie things up, sending the game to the 3rd period with a 1-0 lead for the Tomahawks.

Brad McNeil tied the game for Maryland with 9:19 to go in regulation, making it 1-1 and sending the game to overtime.

Just as time was about to expire in overtime, Jake Black got the game-winner from Jacob Badal to give the Tomahawks a 2-1 win over the Maryland Black Bears Saturday night.

The Tomahawks are in Danbury next weekend for two 3 PM games on Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5 against the Jr. Hat Tricks in Connecticut.
