Brière Nets Hat Trick, Solensky Four Assists in 9-2 Win

JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks capped off an historic 2018-19 home schedule with a hat trick from Carson Brière and a 9-2 win over the WB/Scranton Knights Saturday night at 1st Summit Arena.

1st Period Recap
  • In a reversal of roles from yesterday, it would be the Tomahawks who would strike first when Carson Brière’s shot from the left circle solved Knights netminder Zach Stejskal at the 7:27 mark of the first period. For Brière, the goal was his 42nd of the season.
  • Brière struck again at 13:47 with another goal from the left wing for his 43rd goal of the season.
  • Before the first period came to a close, the Tomahawks gained a 3-0 lead when Cameron Hebert tallied a power play goal at 18:52.

2nd Period Recap
  • Johnstown capitalized off a WB/Scranton penalty just one minute into the period when Oliver Benwell chipped in his 28th of the season. Sam Solensky and Hunter Toale picked up the assists.
  • The Tomahawks’ lead grew to 5-0 when Christian Gorscak deflected a shot from Benwell over the outstretch pad of new Knights goalie Jacob Urban. The goal was Gorscak’s 10th of the season.
  • Bennett Stockdale increased the Tomahawks lead to 6-0 at the 10:39 mark of the second period, chipping in his 16th of the season.
  • The Knights solved goaltender Carter McPhail just six seconds later with a marker from forward Jake Fuss.
  • With 0.7 seconds remaining in the frame, Brière completed the hat trick with his 44th tally of the season assisted by Carter Dwyer and Roman Kraemer.

3rd Period Recap:
  • Just 1:33 into the third period, the Tomahawks lead increased to 8-1 when Carter Dwyerfinished an Alex Wilkins pass for his fourth of the season.
  • Defenseman Hunter Toale gave the Tomahawks a 9-1 lead with his fourth of the season at 7:31.
  • The Knights cut the Johnstown lead to 9-2 with a marker from Tyrone Bronte.
