Bruce Nets OT Winner In 3-2 Win Over Knights

PITTSTON, Pa – Forward Nick Bruce scored one minute into the overtime period to give the Johnstown Tomahawks a 3-2 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights Saturday night at Revolution Ice Centre.

The Knights would tally the game’s first goal when Mike Gelatt scored eight seconds into a power play. Dorian Dawson and Khristian Acosta picked up the assists.

Johnstown responded at 11:06 of the first period when Roman Kraemer deflected a Chris Trouba point shot past goaltender Grant Valentine. The goal was Kraemer’s first in the North American Hockey League and was assisted by Trouba and Andy Iehle.

At 17:40 of the first period, Tomahawks forward Dalton Hunter sniped a shot past Valentine to give Johnstown a 2-1 lead. Filips Buncis helped on the goal.

Both teams were unable to crack the scoreboard in the second as Tomahawks goalie Drew Hotte and the Knight’s Valentine held the fort.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton gained momentum in the third period with quality scoring chances and at 14:20 of the final frame, Sam Antonitsch fired a back-hand shot home to tie the game at 2-2.

In the overtime period, the Tomahawks salted the game 52 seconds in as Nick Bruce capitalized on a loose rebound.

In his seventh win of the season, Hotte stopped 20 of 22 Knights shots on goal. In the loss, Valentine stopped 19 of 22.

The Knights and Tomahawks renew acquaintances Sunday afternoon at noon when the close out the weekend series.
