Bruce Takes Home 5th Star of the Week Award of the Season

Apr 3, 2017

JOHNSTOWN –  The Johnstown Tomahawks and the North American Hockey League announced today that forward Nick Bruce was named the Bauer East Division Star of the Week for the week ending April 2, 2017.

This is the fifth time in the 2016-17 season that Bruce has been honored by the NAHL as the Star of the Week. He represented the East Division at the 2017 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in February.

Bruce earned eight points (three goals, five assists) during a three-game series against the Northeast Generals. The Tomahawks earned four out of six available points.

The Fall River, N.S. native tallied an assist in Thursday’s 4-3 win over the Generals and another helper in 3-2 loss to Northeast on Friday, March 31.

Saturday, April 1, Bruce notched a hat trick and three assists for a total of six points in an 8-3 victory over the Generals.

With his excellent performances as of late, Bruce became the first 60-point performer in Tomahawks history.

“This is Nick’s fifth time winning the Player of the Week award this season and I can honestly say each weekend, he seems to find a way to do something more impressive,” Tomahawks bench boss Mike Letizia said. “The growth he has shown over the course of this season has been remarkable. His ability to dominate games has shown through in the production he has put out week after week moving up the league’s scoring leaders rank. Ultimately, it’s his inner self drive, commitment to playing 200 feet, and the ability to make all the players around him better that is so admirable. He has proven to be an elite Division 1 prospect in my eyes, and any team that makes a commitment to Nick is going to be extremely lucky to have a player and person like him.

Johnstown returns to the War Memorial Friday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. to start a two-game set with the Aston Rebels. April 7 is Pucks and Paws Night presented by the Cambria County Humane Society. Fans can bring their friendly dogs to the game for a $5 dog ticket. The Humane Society will also be accepting donations of dog food.

Saturday, April 8 is Fan Appreciation Night presented by UPMC Health Plan. Fans in attendance will receive a commemorative souvenir poster as well as receive prizes that include gift certificates to local restaurants and retailers, t-shirts, tickets to playoff games and more.
