CAPOS COMMITS TO WESTERN MICHIGAN

Oct 8, 2024

Johnstown Tomahawks defenseman Michal Capos has announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey at Western Michigan University.

“We are very excited for Michal to commit to Western Michigan, said Johnstown Tomahawks Head Coach and General Manager Jared Kersner. “He has only been with us for a few weeks, but you can instantly see his potential as a defenseman. He’s a big, rangy player with a great defensive stick, he is able to disrupt plays early thanks to his ability to anticipate opponents. That speaks volumes about his hockey IQ. Michal is quick at getting the puck to his forehand, and processes his options rapidly, and that makes him an efficient breakout player. We’re thrilled to have him join the Tomahawks and help him develop as he progresses to college and beyond.”

Standing at 6’4″, the Bratislava, Slovakia native is in his first season with the Johnstown Tomahawks and has already made an impact, tallying one assist in his first five games with the team. Prior to joining the Tomahawks, Capos spent last season playing for AIK J18 in Sweden, where he appeared in 20 games and continued to develop his skills at a high level of competition. His combination of size and experience has made him a valuable addition to the Tomahawks’ defensive unit this year.

“I’m extremely honored to be part of Western Michigan University,” said Michal Capos. “It is my next big challenge in my hockey career,  and being here in Johnstown is definitely going to help me get ready for this challenge.”

Western Michigan University, located in Kalamazoo, MI, is home to the Broncos men’s hockey team, which competes in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). The NCHC is widely regarded as one of the top conferences in NCAA Division I hockey, consistently producing elite teams and talent.

Capos and the rest of the Johnstown Tomahawks will return to their home ice next weekend to take on the Rochester Jr. Americans. Fans can purchase their tickets now at www.johnstowntomahawks.com.
