JOHNSTOWN – The North American Hockey League and the Johnstown Tomahawks announced today that goaltender Drew Hotte has been named the Bauer East Division Star of the Week for the week ending January 1, 2017.
Hotte posted a save percentage of .983, a goals against average of 0.50 and a shutout during a weekend sweep of the defending Robertson Cup champions, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
The Gwynedd, Pa., native has earned a record of 11-5-1 and two shutouts in 18 games played.
He faced a total of 59 shots in two games against the Ice Dogs and stopped 58 of those volleys on net. He halted all 32 of the shots he faced on New Year’s Eve in a 3-0 Tomahawks victory.
“We came off a very long holiday break in which we had 3 weeks off from games so getting the performance we did from Drew was outstanding,” head coach Mike Letizia said. “We were fortunate to find some offense in the first game of the series but there were plenty of chances that Drew came up with some big saves to keep the game where it was. In the second game of the weekend, we got an early 1-0 lead which held until late in the 3rd period when Donovan Ott scored 2 goals, and Drew was instrumental in keeping the game where it was coming up with numerous big saves throughout the game leading to a shutout. I was extremely proud of Drew and our club to come out of a long Christmas break and picking up a sweep on home ice.”
The Tomahawks continue a homestand with three games against the Kenai River Brown Bears starting Friday, January 7 at 7:30 p.m. The series continues Saturday, January 8 at 7 p.m. and concludes Sunday, January 8 with Undies Sunday.
Fans are encouraged to bring a package of new, unused underwear to toss onto the ice after the Tomahawks first goal to benefit the Children’s Tumor Foundation.
