Hawks Fall in Overtime, Generals Finally Find the Win Column

Oct 22, 2020

The Tomahawks fell to the Northeast Generals 5-4 in overtime in Thursday’s daytime game.

Johnstown’s Gelatt – Mastromonica – Clark line showed major dominance accounting for three of the Tomahawks four goals in Thursday’s game. The line tallied a combined seven points on the afternoon.

Anthony Mastromonica set the pace early putting the Tomahawks on the board only 11 seconds in. The Kings Park, NY native drove directly into the Generals zone upon winning the opening faceoff and followed up with a beautiful goal. Forward Jonathan Young and defenseman Bobby Metz put the Generals on the board, followed by another goal for the Tomahawks from Max Neill with seven seconds left in the period. Four first period goals left things tied up to go into the 2nd period.

5:53 into the middle frame, Mastromonica scored again, tallying his fifth goal already this season. The Generals answered with a  goal by Liam McCanney five minutes later. The two forwards scored the only goals in the 2nd to send the teams into the locker room still tied before coming out for the final 20 minutes.

Forward Kolye Bankauskas got the go-ahead-goal for the Generals six minutes into the 3rd period to give the Generals a late lead, but that didn’t last long. Tomahawks forward Brendan Clark (Morris Plains, NJ) scored, tying things back up three minutes later. That would be all for regulation and the Tomahawks would be headed to overtime for the fourth time in their first five games.

The Generals wasted no time in the extra frame as Metz found the back of the net for the second time Thursday afternoon, ending the game only 1:05 into the overtime period.
