ROCKVILLE, MD – Goaltender Cooper Lukenda stopped all 21 shots on goal as the Johnstown Tomahawks (31-5-0) defeated the Maryland Black Bears (11-21-5) 6-0 Saturday night at Rockville Ice Arena.
The win improves the Tomahawks’ point total to 62 points (First in the NAHL).
1st Period Recap
After Maryland got into penalty trouble, Cameron Hebert made the Black Bears pay with a power play goal at the 10:06 mark of the first period. Oliver Benwell and Roman Kraemer assisted on Hebert’s 17th of the season.
Colin Price put the Tomahawks ahead 2-0 after the Black Bears turned the puck over in their defensive zone. Price carried the puck into the low slot and fired the puck past Maryland goalie David Tomeo. The goal was scored shorthanded and was Price’s seventh of the season.
The Tomahawks ended the first period with a power play goal from Oliver Benwell with three seconds remaining in the frame. Benwell was placed in front of Tomeo and deflected a point shot from Hunter Toale for his 16th goal of the season.

2nd Period Recap
The Tomahawks continued their dominance with the man advantage with another goal from Benwell at the 6:02 mark of the second period. Carson Brière and Hebert assisted on the goal. For Benwell, the goal was his 17th of the season and ninth on the power play.
Sam Solensky capitalized on another Maryland penalty to score his 22nd goal of the season and sixth on the power play. Benwell and Toale collected the helpers.
Again the Black Bears visited the sin bin and once again the Tomahawks tallied a power play goal. Hebert was credited with his second of the game and 18th of the season.

3rd Period Recap:
Lukenda shut the door on the Black Bears securing his first shut out of the season and improving his record to 10-1-0.
The Tomahawks earned 14 power play chances against the Black Bears, a season high. They converted on five of 14 power play chances.
With the win, Johnstown improves their winning streak to seven games.
Sam Solensky picked up his 40th assist of the season on Hebert’s second goal of the game
The Tomahawks return to 1st Summit Arena on Friday, January 18 for Hockey and Heels at 7:30 p.m. The following night, former Penguins Darius Kasparaitis and Tyler Kennedy along with numerous Johnstown Chiefs alumni take the ice against the Johnstown Warriors in a charity game benefiting the local youth hockey prior to the Tomahawks taking on the Knights at 5 p.m. Puck drops for the Tomahawks game at 7 p.m.
