Oct 30, 2016

ASTON, Pa — Johnstown Tomahawks goaltender Drew Hotte saved 30 shots in a 2-0 victory over the Aston Rebels Saturday night at the IceWorks Skating Complex.

The first period did not bring goals to the scoreboard as both the Tomahawks and Rebels failed to solve their respective goaltenders.

The Tomahawks would crack the scoreless stalemate early in the second period when Donovan Ott capitalized on an open net left by Rebels goalie Jack Leavy. Ott’s tenth goal of the season was assisted by linemantes Filips Buncis and Dalton Hunter.

Aston gained momentum as the period rolled along including two powerplay opportunities, but, the Tomahawks penalty killers held the fort as Johnstown carried a 1-0 advantage into the second intermission.

The Tomahawks would turn the tide of the game midway through the third period when Gvido Jansons took a spearing major to put Johnstown on a five-minute power play.

Nick Bruce would take advantage of the extra power play time with his sixth goal of the season. Ott and Hunter assisted on the goal that proved to put the game out of reach for Aston.

Hotte picked up his first shutout of the season and improved his record to 5-1-1. Leavy’s record moved to 3-1-0 in a 22-save performance.
