Johnstown Tomahawks secure a 6-3 victory against the Philadelphia Rebels in the weekend opener.
The opening period was filled with action. It all started when Alex Legkov found the back of the net for the Tomahawks just four minutes into the game, with an assist from Hayes Hundley. However, the Rebels quickly answered with a goal of their own three minutes later, and then repeated the feat minutes after that. But the Tomahawks weren’t to be outdone, as Ryan Panico netted a goal just 30 seconds after the Rebels’ second goal, making it a 2-2 game. This exciting back-and-forth action led both teams to head to the locker room with the score knotted at 2-2.
The Tomahawks dominated the second period, with goaltender Jacob Osbourne putting on a stellar performance, making breathtaking saves. Alex Legkov continued to shine, scoring his second goal of the game, courtesy of assists from Anton Claesson and Jeremy LaCroix, propelling the Tomahawks into the lead. Isaac Holt, who had committed to Robert Morris this, also got in on the action, netting his second goal of the season with an assist from Reid Lune, expanding the Tomahawks’ lead to 4-2 as the second period came to a close.
Philadelphia found the back of the net first in the third period, narrowing the score to 4-3, with Johnstown still holding the lead. Ryan Panico then extended the Tomahawks’ advantage to 5-3, securing his second goal of the game with an assist from Taybor Aldrich. Throughout the remainder of the game, Osborne and the Tomahawks’ defense fiercely contested against the Rebels. In the closing moments of regulation, Taybor Aldrich capitalized on an empty-net opportunity with only 24 seconds remaining, receiving assists from Ryan Panico and Isaac Holt. As a result, the Tomahawks clinched the game with a final score of 6-3 over the Philadelphia Rebels.
