Johnstown Tomahawks Suffer a 6-3 Defeat Against Maryland Black Bear

The Johnstown Tomahawks fall 6-3 to the Maryland Black Bears in game two of the opening weekend series.

Your Johnstown Tomahawks wasted no time picking up where they left off, as they began the first period with a Justin Rapp power-play goal, assisted by Will Lawrence. However, the Maryland Black Bears quickly found their scoring touch, tallying a total of three goals in the opening period, one of which came on a power-play opportunity. Maryland even had a chance to capitalize on a penalty shot, but their hopes were dashed by the impressive save made by Tomahawks’ goaltender, Jacob Osborne. As the first period came to a close, the scoreboard read Tomahawks 1, Black Bears 3.

The second period saw Maryland surging ahead with two goals, extending their lead to 5-1. However, the Tomahawks were not ready to concede defeat. Nick White found the back of the net for the second time this season, with an assist from Zach Aben making it a 5-2 game. Just a minute later, Alexey Yarmulnik notched his first goal of the season, narrowing Maryland’s lead to 5-3. Despite an exhilarating 20 minutes of play, the score held at 5-3 in favor of Maryland.

Following an intense contest in the third period, Maryland emerged as the sole team to score, securing a 6-3 victory over the Johnstown Tomahawks in the final 20 minutes of play.

The Johnstown Tomahawks are set to participate in the NAHL Showcase from September 13th to 16th in Blaine, MN, featuring four exciting matchups.
