Johnstown Tomahawks Transaction Updates

Feb 4, 2022

With the NAHL trade deadline and roster freeze quickly approaching (Sunday, Feb 6), the Tomahawks have some transaction to announce prior to the weekend series beginning this afternoon in Danbury against the Jr. Hat Tricks.

Departures:

Goaltender Liam Gross and Forward Carson Galin have been released by the Tomahawks. Galin was acquired by the El Paso Rhinos and will be joining them

Acquisitions:

Defenseman Tyler DesRochers was acquired from the Northeast Generals in mid-January. Since joining the Tomahawks, the Howell, New Jersey native has two assists in four games.

Goaltender Dom Wasik has been acquired from the Aberdeen Wings. The Superior, Colorado native joins the Tomahawks with a 10-7-0-1 record to his name in the 2021-22 season.

Forward Alex Walker has been acquired from the Wichita Falls Warriors, joining former teammate goaltender Matt O’Donnell on the Tomahawks roster. Being a local product, coming from Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Walker spent three seasons playing with the Esmark Stars program. Walker had three goals and six assists in 38 games this season with the Warriors.

“With the trade deadline and roster freeze approaching, we are constantly evaluating daily avenues to improve our roster,” said Head Coach Mike Letizia. “We like our team and feel there are a lot of quality pieces but you always have to seek tweaks that you feel can make a difference. Obviously with a lot of our recent player losses -Dusty to Mercyhurst, Tommy to Omaha, and Sammy to Bowling Green- we had to make moves out of necessity especially in the net.  We feel we have added two experienced goaltenders that we hope can combine to give us a chance to win every night and help us to a successful playoff run.  We will keep our eyes and ears open to any more opportunities that can help us, but also like the fact that our recent acquisitions have the ability to help our current roster but also beyond this season. We have had such a massive roster turnover year after year recently that being able to add potential multi-year guys can hopefully be a double bonus for us.  Additionally, we do expect Mack Oliphant to hopefully return with some time left in the regular season and we look at him as a big time impact in returning to our lineup.”

The Tomahawks face off against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks on the road this weekend in Connecticut Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5, with both games scheduled for 3 PM start times. Then the Tomahawks return home the following weekend for two games against the Maine Nordiques on Friday, February 11 at 7:30 PM and Saturday February 12 at 7 PM for 90s Night.
