Dec 1, 2023

In a well-deserved accolade, Justin Gibson, defenseman for the Johnstown Tomahawks, has earned the prestigious title of North American Hockey League Defenseman of the Month for November. The Pittsburgh native has been a force to be reckoned with, showcasing his prowess on the ice with an impressive performance throughout the season. In 24 games played so far, Gibson has notched an impressive stat line, accounting for seven goals, 15 assists, and a total of 22 points.

Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Gibson spoke highly of his experience playing in Johnstown, emphasizing the incredible support from fans and the city. “I’m extremely grateful to receive this recognition. Playing in Johnstown has been a great experience so far, and the fans and city have been amazing,” said Gibson. He further expressed his optimism for the team’s future, stating, “I think we have a great thing going in Johnstown right now, and I am really excited to see how far we can go. I truly believe that we have a great group and can make a run for the Robertson Cup.”

Entering his first season with the Johnstown Tomahawks, Justin Gibson brings a wealth of experience, having spent the previous two seasons with the Victoria Grizzlies in the BCHL. Before his time in the BCHL, Gibson honed his skills with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite. Currently, Gibson assumes a leadership role as one of the assistant captains for the Tomahawks, leveraging his on-ice expertise and contributing to the team’s dynamic both in and out of the games.

“Justin has been outstanding for us since day 1 of the season and it is extremely well deserved for him to receive this recognition as NAHL Defenseman of the Month,” said Johnstown Tomahawks Head Coach Mike Letizia.  “He has been a major contributor on our back-end, but an equally important driver of our offensive game and power play.  Additionally, he has been a fantastic leader for us off the ice and within the Johnstown community. Whichever Division 1 team lands Justin will not only be getting a terrific hockey player, but also a terrific person. I couldn’t be more proud of what he has meant to our team, and what he will continue to mean to us for the rest of the season.”

The entire Johnstown Tomahawks organization would like to congratulate Justin on this well-deserved achievement!
