Lunn Commits to Robert Morris

This past weekend, Johnstown Tomahawks defenseman Gabriel Lunn announced his commitment to play Division I hockey at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. The Colonials men’s and women’s program will resume play in the 2023-24 season, following their two-year hiatus.

“We are extremely excited to congratulate Gabe on his commitment to Robert Morris,” said Coach Letizia. “He has shown himself to be an elite two-way defenseman this season. He is someone that really trusted our organization as a place that could help advance him to the next level, and he delivered on his end of the bargain.”

Lunn, a Lockport, New York native, has appeared in all nine games for Johnstown so far this season and has three assists to start the season. Prior to playing in Johnstown, Lunn put up 26 points (6G, 20A) for the Utica Jr. Comets in the NCDC.

“When he skated with us last season for a few practices it was evident he was a great potential player for us and utilizing the NAHL Tender process allowed us to secure his playing rights for 22-23,” also added Letizia. “He felt a switch to our league was going to be great for his development as well as his advancement to NCAA Division I hockey, and barely a month into the season he was rewarded.”

Prior to the 2021-22 season, Robert Morris University announced that the men’s and women’s ice hockey programs would be discontinued at the school. After the two-year fight, the program is set to make its return to the ice next season.

Letizia exclaimed his excitement for the return of the program, saying “we are all anxiously awaiting RMU’s return to college hockey and look forward to Coach Schooley having another Tomahawk-turned-Colonial. For Gabe it’s an exciting opportunity to be on the ground level so to speak of the rebirth of their program. We couldn’t be happier for him and his family on his great news.”
