New scoreboard, boards and glass among approved War Memorial Arena upgrades

Jun 26, 2015

Several exciting new upgrades are on their way to the home of the Tomahawks, as the Cambria County War Memorial Arena Authority Board approved the first set of arena improvements stemming from Johnstown’s Kraft Hockeyville victory earlier this week.

Among the upgrades are a new compressor, a key component in the process to keep the ice surface chilled, a complete set of NHL-caliber dasher boards and glass, and Kevlar netting to protect spectators behind each goal.  The boards and glass were previously used by the NHL’s Dallas stars at American Airlines Arena.

A new center-ice scoreboard for the arena was also approved.  The new scoreboard will offer a significantly improved display over the arena’s previous scoreboard, along with new messaging capabilities to add to the fan experience at Tomahawks games.

Additional arena improvements are expected to be announced throughout the remainder of the summer, and all work is expected to be complete in time for the Tomahawks season opener and the NHL pre-season game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning to be played in Johnstown on Sept. 29.

Tomahawks season ticket packages are currently on sale, with plans starting as low as $98 per ticket.  For information or to register your account, call (814) 536-4625.
