Okicki Named North Division Star of the Week

The Johnstown Tomahawks are proud to announce that goaltender Alex Okicki has been named the NAHL Easton North Division Star of the Week for the week ending September 29th. This is the second straight week that a Tomahawks player has received the award, after Joe Drabin earned the honor last week.

Okicki appeared in all three games last weekend against Soo. He came in late in the third period of Friday night’s game and stopped 28 of 30 shots. He earned his first win of the season on Saturday night, stopping 26 of 28 shots in regulation and overtime. In the shootout he was solid, going a perfect 7-for-7, and helping the Tomahawks pick up the 3-2 win. In the weekend finale, he stopped all 28 shots he faced in a 2-0 win. Okicki is now 2-2-0 on the season with a 2.30 GAA and a .922 save percentage.

“Alex is such a great leader,” said Tomahawks head coach Jason Spence. “I saw it first-hand last year playing against him. He never gives up on a play and he works very hard. Has been a good mentor to our other goalies.”

Johnstown forward Jordan Watt received an honorable mention this week, after scoring three goals in the weekend series. Two of the three goals came in Sunday’s 2-0 win.

Johnstown returns home Oct. 5 and 6 to take on the Springfield Jr. Blues at the War Memorial Arena. The second annual Pucks N’ Paws night will be held during the Oct. 6 game at 3 p.m.
