Phipps Shuts Out Knights in 2-0 Hawks Win

Johnstown, Pa – The Johnstown Tomahawks hosted the Wilke-Barre/Scranton Knights for the second and last time this weekend and kept the Knights off the board, winning, 2-0.

 

The first period remained scoreless while Wilkes-Barre/Scranton narrowly outshot Johnstown, 9-8.

 

In the second period, the Johnstown Tomahawks broke the tie when Ben Schmidling netted his seventh goal of the season at 13:03. The lone assist went to Joe Kile.

 

Johnstown would add to their lead with less than a minute to go in the period when Donovan Ott also scored his seventh of the season at 19:44. The goal was unassisted.

 

Johnstown took the 2-0 lead into the third period.

 

In the third period, the Knights put on the pressure in their attempt to tie the game, but just like the two periods before, Johnstown’s netminder, Kade Phipps was perfect, holding the Knights scoreless in the third period.

 

Johnstown didn’t need any more goals and won the game by the final of 2-0.

 

Kade Phipps turned away all 24 shots he faced in the win, which gives him three on the season.

 

 

The Tomahawks head to the road next weekend when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Rebels on Friday and Saturday night.

 

The Tomahawk are back home on December 30-31 for the annual New Year’s Eve game, when Johnstown hosts the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

 

On December 30, 2017 it’s Guaranteed Win Night presented by Pennsylvania Lottery. Fans are guaranteed to win prizes with the scratch-off ticket giveaway (first 2,000 fans). There will also be a PA Lottery Bogo coupons and Team Calendar Giveaway. Puck drops at 7:00pm.

 

The following night, December 31, 2017 at a special 6pm start time, it’s New Year’s Eve Celebrations presented by Coors Light. Ring in the New Year with the annual Johnstown hockey tradition with the first 1,000 fans receiving a souvenir noise maker. There will be post game celebrations with the players followed by festivities at Central Park, in downtown Johnstown.
