Springfield Jr. Blues vs. Johnstown Tomahawks

This afternoon, Johnstown  and Springfield conclude their weekend series  at 3 p.m.  The        Tomahawks  will look to extend their winning streak, while picking up their first weekend sweep of the season. Springfield will look to bounce back after last night’s 3-2 loss.

LAST NIGHT

Last night, the Tomahawks defeated Springfield 3-2 for their third straight win. Omar Mullan scored two goals, including the game winner at 7:09 of the third period.

The Jr. Blues got on the board first, as Alex Baskakov scored a power-play goal at 6:22 of the first period. The Tomahawks answered less than a minute later, with Collin Finkouse scoring at 7:23.

The score remained the same until Mullan scored second period goals at 3:38 and 7:09. Springfield got the deficit down to one with a goal by Max Kalter at 17:46 of the third period, but Okicki and the Tomahawks stood strong in the closing minutes to preserve the victory.

Okicki earned his third straight win, stopping 20 of 22 shots. Springfield goaltender Sandro Aeschlimann allowed three goals on 20 shots in his first loss of the season. Neither team had much success on the power play, with Springfield going 1-for-5 and Johnstown going 0-for-2.

Following today’s game, Johnstown travels to Flint, MI to take on the Michigan Warriors next weekend. Springfield returns home to take on the Soo Eagles next weekend.
