Solensky Named East Division Star of the Week

Sep 17, 2018

JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks and the North American Hockey League announced today that forward Sam Solensky was named the Bauer East Division Star of the Week for the week ending September 16.
Solensky earned four points (two goals, two assists) during a two-game opening weekend sweep of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights September 14-15.
The Michalovce, Slovakia native assisted on Cam Hebert’s game-winning power play goal on Friday, Sept. 14 in a 3-2 win. Additionally, he tallied two goals and chipped in an assist in Saturday’s 5-1 victory over the Knights.
“We felt good about our overall team play, and Sammy was a very big part of our offense,” head coach Mike Letizia said. “As usual, he was creating a lot of plays and was around the puck all game. He set up our game winning goal on Friday night with a great play. Then on Saturday, he was a big force for us with two goals and setting up another. I felt he was dangerous all weekend when he was on the ice. Heading into the Showcase this week it was some positive momentum for him as I feel he is a very strong Division I prospect and hopefully his quality play carries right into the upcoming week.”
Johnstown travels to Blaine, Minn., to participate in the annual NAHL Showcase. The four-day event begins Wednesday, Sept. 19 when the Tomahawks take on the Minnesota Wilderness at 12 p.m.
The Tomahawks home opener at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA is set for October 5 vs Jamestown. Former Steelers wide receiver and Super Bowl XL MVP Hines Ward will drop the ceremonial first puck. His appearance is presented by 1st Summit Bank, GapVax, Toyota and UPMC Health Plan.
