Tomahawks 2023 NAHL Entry Draft Recap

The Johnstown Tomahawks made ten selections yesterday during the 2023 North American Hockey League’s Entry Draft.

With the 12th overall selection in the draft’s first round, the Tomahawks selected 6’2” goaltender Jacob Osborne. The ‘03 Gloucester, ON native, spent his last season with the Wellington Dukes of the OJHL with a .926 SV% and 2.22 GAA in 26 games played.

Justin Gibson a Pittsburgh, PA native was selected in the second round of the draft at pick #44. Gibson, an ‘03, 6’1” defenseman who played in the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite system, spent the last two seasons in the BCHL with the Victoria Grizzlies where he accounted for 27 points during his tenure in Victoria.

In the third round, the Tomahawks selected a 6’3” center, Coleman Jenkins from Mansfield, MA.  Jenkins (‘03), who is committed to the College of Holy Cross, spent the 2022-2023 season split between the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL and the Boston Jr Bruins of the NCDC. 

With the 105th pick of the NAHL draft the Johnstown Tomahawks selected forward, Wiggo Weino. The 6’6”, 198-pound Sweden native spent his previous season with, Rogle BK J20 where he accounted for 14 goals, 22 assists, and 36 points in 40 games played.

For the Tomahawk’s fifth selection,  Zackary Ferris a Pittsburgh, PA native was taken by Johnstown at pick 140 in the fifth round. The ‘05 6’0” goaltender spent the 2022-2023 season with the New Jersey Rockets of the NCDC where he saw a .905 SV% in 23 games.

Anton Claesson was selected by the Tomahawks in the seventh round at pick #204. A 6’2” forward, from Sweeden, Claesson played his previous season with MoDo Hockey J20 of the Sweedish J20 league where he accounted for two goals, 20 assists, and 22 points in 46 games.

In the eighth round of the draft Maryland native,  Blake Montgomery (‘05) was acquired by Johnstown. The University of Maine Commit spent last season with Mount St. Charles Academy and accounted for nine goals, 24 assists, and 33 points in 56 games. Montgomery, a 6’4” forward also spent five games with the New Jersey Rockets of the NCDC during the 2022-2023 season.

The Johnstown Tomahawks selected forward,  Gryphon Watson-Bucci in the ninth round at pick #268. The ‘06 Utah native spent the last two seasons with the Boston Hockey Academy organization. At the 16u AAA level, Watson-Bucci tallied an impressive 35 goals, 70 assists, and 105 points in 60 games during his 2022-2023 campaign.

With the 300th pick of the 2023 NAHL Entry Draft the Tomahawks select, William Tomko a Pittsburgh, PA native. The forward spent last season with Peters Township High School as well as with SHAHA Panthers 16u AAA. In 16 games played with Peters Township, Tomko accounted for 22 goals, 5 assists, and 27 points. With SHAHA the ‘06 put up 40 goals, 62 assists, and 102 points during the 2022-2023 season. 

For the Tomahawk’s final selection at pick 332, Ryan Lehet (‘03) of Seven Springs, OH was acquired by Johnstown. The 5’11” goaltender spent his 2022-2023 campaign with the Granite City Lumberjacks of the NA3HL. With the Lumberjacks, Lehet earned a 2.04 GAA with a .921 SV%.
