JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks, proud members of the North American Hockey League, announced Tuesday afternoon the acquisitions of Ben and David Schmidling from the Janesville Jets.
The Schmidling brothers (both ’98 birth years), of Hockessin, Del., spent last season in Janesville. Ben collected 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) in 35 games played while David earned 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) in 31 games played for the Jets.
They were teammates with current Tomahawks forward Joey Baez on the 2015-16 Baltimore Skipjacks squad.
“Ben and David are two offensively talented guys who we feel will add speed, skill and playmaking to our lineup,” Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia said. “Obviously, there is a level of chemistry there that we anticipate being pretty natural.”
The Schmidlings, according to Letizia, will bring a key attributes to the Tomahawks.
“They played for a strong Janesville team that went to the Robertson Cup final four last year, which is an attribute that can be beneficial to our relatively young group,” said Letizia. “We are really excited to add them to our team and look forward to seeing how they contribute on and off the ice.”
David Schmidling will wear No. 20 while Ben Schmidling will wear No. 81.
The Tomahawks are back in action Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7:35 p.m., when they visit the Philadelphia Rebels. Johnstown opens the 2017-18 home portion of their schedule on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial.
