Tomahawks Acquire Somoza From Generals

Feb 2, 2017

JOHNSTOWN — The Johnstown Tomahawks announced Wednesday evening that the team has acquired forward Evan Somoza from the Northeast Generals.

Somoza (’97 birth year), a Simi Valley, Calif., native has scored nine goals and six assists with the Generals this season in 36 games.

The 6-1 forward captured the 2016 Robertson Cup  with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs last season, adding championship experience to the Tomahawks.

“We are very excited to be adding Evan Somoza to our lineup,” Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia said. “He is someone that stood out to us last year while in Fairbanks, and quite frequently in the games we have played against the Northeast Generals this season. He possesses a great combination of explosive speed, skill and work ethic that should mix in immediately with our current group. Additionally, he won a Robertston Cup last season with Fairbanks which is extremely valuable experience to add to our club as we pursue our goal of bringing a championship to Johnstown.”

Somoza is expected to be in the Johnstown lineup on Thursday, Feb. 2 when the team hosts Northeast at the Cambria County War Memorial.

Thursday kicks off a three-game weekend at the War Memorial against the Generals. For tickets, fans can order online at Ticketmaster.com, call 1-800-745-3000 or visit the War Memorial Box Office.
