TOMAHAWKS ADD VETERAN DEFENSEMAN LESAGE

Feb 4, 2015

Johnstown, PA – The Johnstown Tomahawks continued to add to their roster prior to the NAHL roster deadline today, as the team announced the addition of defenseman Nick LeSage.

LeSage was acquired from the Amarillo Bulls in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2016.  A 6-2 blueliner from Green Bay, Wisc., LeSage has played a combined 35 games this season between the Bulls and the Keystone Ice Miners, totaling two goals and nine assists.

The NAHL trade deadline is this Friday, and rosters will be frozen for the remainder of the season on Feb. 10.

LeSage is no stranger to the Tomahawks, tallying three assists in his three games against Johnstown this season as a member of the Ice Miners.

“We’ve seen a lot of him over the past few years,” Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia said of LeSage, who is in his final year of junior eligibility. “He’s a good defender who has always played well against us. “

Letizia said LeSage is expected to be in the line-up this weekend as the Tomahawks travel to Flint, Mich., for a two-game series with the Michigan Warriors.

“He is excited about coming here and joining this team,” Letizia said.

Forward Ryan Bochert was released in a corresponding move.

The addition of LeSage will help offset the loss of team captain Brady Bender, who returned to his home in Tennessee to recover from an upper body injury sustained during last weekend’s sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues.  Bender remains out indefinitely but is hopeful to rejoin the team soon.

The Tomahawks return home for a three game homestand Feb. 12-14, beginning with a 10:30 a.m. game time on Thursday.  Next Friday and Saturday’s games – both at 7 p.m. – are “Red-Out Weekend, Presented by HealthCare First Credit Union.”  Fans are asked to wear red to the game in support of heart health awareness, and specialty jerseys will be raffled throughout the weekend.

Fans at the games are also asked to bring donations of non-perishable Kraft food products to shake as noisemakers during the game in conjunction with the ongoing Kraft Hockeyville contest.  Donations will be given to local needy families.

Individual tickets starting at $9 for adults or $6 for kids under 12 are available at www.johnstowntomahawks.com.   For additional information, call the team office at 814-536-4625.
