Tomahawks Announce April Community Pride Award

Three Forest Hills juniors receive the Johnstown Tomahawks Foundation honor

after raising more than $4,800 for autism

The Johnstown Tomahawks are proud to announce that three Forest Hills High School juniors are the recipients of the Johnstown Tomahawks Foundation (JTF) Community Pride Award for the month of April. Lakin Stiffler, Keri Ondrejik, and Brianna Neff earned the honor for their significant contributions to the Alternative Community Resource Program (ACRP) Autism Spectrum Disorders Unit.

The three young women have raised awareness and funds for autism in the past several months as part of their senior project for Forest Hills. In March, they partnered with the Tomahawks for “Spike Autism,” a volleyball charity game that featured the Forest Hills Girls Varsity Volleyball Team playing against Tomahawks players to raise funds for the charity.

In early May, Lakin, Keri, and Brianna will present a check to ACRP for more than $4,800 raised during “Spike Autism” through ticket sales, sponsors, donations, Tomahawks “Cluck-a-Puck” and 50/50 sales, baked goods, and donations from themed “Dress Down Days” at Forest Hills.

“The Tomahawks are thrilled to present the Community Pride Award to Lakin, Keri, and Brianna,” said Team President Rick Bouchard. “It’s truly remarkable to see young people so invested in this community and dedicated to helping others. As an organization we were proud to partner with them for the Spike Autism event, and now we are so proud to see the results of their efforts through the monetary donation to ACRP.  These young women serve as a reminder to us all that just a few people can make a difference in our region.”

The Tomahawks present the JTF Community Pride Award each month to an individual, group, or organization that strives to make the greater Johnstown community better through various sports-related initiatives. As part of its goal to contribute to the quality of life in this region, the JTF looks forward to recognizing and awarding those who have a passion for sports and share similar goals of improving the community.

ACRP, which has offices in downtown Johnstown, Ebensburg, and Altoona, strives to prevent out-of-home placement of children and adolescents and enable the family unit to remain intact. Through the introduction of available community resources, guidance, mentoring, and assistance with skill building, youth and families at-risk of being separated and/or experiencing problems within the home, school, or

community will be able to help themselves. To achieve this goal, ACRP provides a variety of programs and services for children, adolescents, families, and adults in the home, school and community.
