Tomahawks announce long-term contract extension
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Johnstown Tomahawks, SMG, and the Arena Authority officially announced an agreement that will keep the Tomahawks in Johnstown for 3 more years.
The agreement includes a three-year contract between the team and arena with an option one-year extension.
“The agreement is the culmination of months of hard work between SMG and the Tomahawks management,” said Board Chairman Mike Barletta. “We are very pleased with the outcome and look forward to working with the Tomahawks for the next several years.”
“When I arrived in Johnstown in early May, it was our first priority to finalize a multi-year partnership with our main tenant that would benefit all parties,” said SMG’s Jason Blumenfeld, the newly appointed General Manager of 1ST SUMMIT ARENA. “By continuing to work together, we are looking forward to building on the team’s on-ice success while providing the best possible guest experience for all those attending the games.”
The Tomahawks kick off their eighth season in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) on the road on Friday, September 13, against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. The home opening weekend at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA @ CCWM is scheduled for Friday, September 27-28, versus division rival the New Jersey Titans.
“We feel confident that the terms of this contract will solidify the partnership with the arena and strengthen our ties to the community. We especially want to thank the efforts and collaboration of the new arena general manager, Jason Blumenfeld, SMG, and the Board of Authority,” Team President Richard Bouchard said. “Now we can focus on building another championship caliber team and prepare for the season!”
The Tomahawks have been the primary tenant of the SMG-managed 1ST SUMMIT ARENA at Cambria County War Memorial since 2012.
