Tomahawks Announce New Tender
Tomahawks acquire Logan Coomes of the Empire Jr. Hockey League
Johnstown, Pa. – Johnstown Tomahawks General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations Rick Boyd today announced the team has tendered forward Logan Coomes, who played his 2012-2013 season with the Frederick Freeze of the Empire Jr. Hockey League. Coomes, an Ijamsville. Md. native, verbally committed to the NCAA Division I Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey team last month.
“Through our scouting efforts, we learned about Coomes and invited him to skate with the Tomahawks in Johnstown,” said Tomahawks Assistant Coach Mike Letizia. “We were thoroughly impressed with his skills and feel he will be a strong asset for our team.”
The 17-year-old led his team in scoring as a rookie last season with 24 goals and 40 assists in 39 games. Those statistics gave him a third place tie for scoring in the EJHL. Coomes will play junior hockey before attending Quinnipiac, with whom he cannot sign a National Letter of Intent until the age of 18.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to skate with the Tomahawks previously, which made it even more exciting when they asked me to commit to them for next season,” said Coomes. “I love playing hockey, and I'm most comfortable being on the ice; It's like my second home. I think that playing with the Tomahawks will challenge me to be a better hockey player. And I hope that I can add something to the team. "
