Tomahawks Blanked By Rebels

JOHNSTOWN –  The Aston Rebels defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks 2-0 Saturday Night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

The first period yielded no goals as the Rebels outshot the Tomahawks 11-4. Both the Rebels and Tomahawks created scoring chances in the period.

Aston tallied the game’s first goal early in the second period when Aaron Maguyon slipped a puck behind Tomahawks goalie Vinnie Purpura for his 12th goal of the season. Carson Briere picked up the lone assist.

Johnstown was able to generate chances on Rebels goalie Carter McPhail but he stood tall in net.

The Rebels gained a 2-0 lead late in the third period as Adam Peck finished a pass from Briere with five minutes remaining in the game.

McPhail earned a 19-save shutout win while Purpura suffered the loss, saving 19 of 21 Rebels shots on goal.

The Division Semifinals of the 2017 Robertson Cup Playoffs begin on Friday, April 14 at the War Memorial as the Tomahawks take on the New Jersey Titans in game one of a best-of-five series. Faceoff for game one is set for 7:30 p.m. Game Two at the War Memorial is Saturday, April 15 at 7 p.m. Single game tickets are on sale now.
