Tomahawks Close Out Alaska Trip Against Fairbanks

Oct 29, 2015

JOHNSTOWN– The Johnstown Tomahawks continue their Alaska road trip this weekend, visiting the Fairbanks Ice Dogs for games Friday and Saturday nights. The Tomahawks will look to match last weekend’s two-game sweep of the Kenai River Brown Bears, a series in which they outscored the Brown Bears 10-2.

Leading the way for the Tomahawks last weekend was goaltender Nick DeSimone. The Horsham, Penn. native stopped 70 of 72 shots in the two games, earning both wins. His performance earned him the East Division Star of the Week Award last weekend.

Forward Andrew Romano also put together an impressive weekend, scoring three goals and adding two assists. Romano leads the team with 16 points and 11 assists through the first 15 games of the season.

Johnstown faces a Fairbanks team that leads the Midwest Division with a 11-2-1 overall record. The Ice Dogs are 5-1 at home, with their lone home loss coming against the Aston Rebels last Saturday night.

Ice Dogs forward Todd Burgess is tied for the league lead with 20 points (11 goals, 9 assists). Fairbanks goaltenders Gavin Nieto and CJ Boothe have gone a combined 8-2-1 with two shutouts this season.

The Tomahawks are 2-2 all-time against the Ice Dogs, including a 1-1 record in games played at this weekend’s venue, The Big Dipper Ice Arena. Face-off for both games is set for 11:30 p.m., with live video available on www.fasthockey.com.

The Tomahawks travel to Aston and New Jersey next weekend, before returning home Nov. 12-14 to start an 11-game homestand against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit www.johnstowntomahawks.com or call 814-536-GOAL (4625).
