TOMAHAWKS CONCLUDE SEASON

Apr 14, 2024

The second game of the best-of-three series opened up Saturday night in quite the opposite fashion as the night before. Through the first five minutes of action, the titans jumped out to a four to none shot advantage, controlling things early. The hawks found themselves down a man early due to a self-inflicted too many men penalty. Hawks’ defenseman Hayes Hundley came up huge on the kill as he recorded two crucial blocked shots. Johnstown hadn’t registered their first shot of the game until the clock read nearly eight minutes left. Johnstown had almost escaped the period unscathed until New Jersey forward Arhip Sidarovich found the back of the net from the high slot and New Jersey headed to intermission with a 1-0 advantage.

Johnstown started the second period with a purpose and created some momentum which led to an early powerplay. Hawks’ forward Will Lawrence squeaked one thru the goaltender Krick and capitalized in the dying seconds of the man-advantage to tie the game up at two. With about nine minutes to play in the middle frame, the Hawks drew another penalty with more hard work in the offensive zone but came up empty. Both teams head into the second break all nodded up.

The third period understandably started somewhat uneventful with both teams seeming to try and play smart and not make mistakes. Johnstown got a chance to strike on the power-play once again with 11 minutes to play, but the New Jersey kill prevailed again. A back-and-forth period continued until New Jersey found the back of the net with just under seven minutes to play to take a 2-1 lead. With the Tomahawks pressing to get the equalizer, New Jersey capitalized once again on an odd man rush to add to their lead. They would eventually add an empty net goal to put in the dagger. Final score from Johnstown, 4-1 New Jersey.
