Tomahawks Drop 7-3 Contest to IceRays

BLAINE, Minn. – The Johnstown Tomahawks dropped a 7-3 contest to the Corpus Christi IceRays Thursday evening at Schwan Super Rink.
Corpus Christi found the back of the net first midway through the opening period with a goal from Santeri Hartikainen. Krystof Stuchlik picked up the lone assist.
In the second period, the IceRays gained a two-goal lead when Jordan Randall’s shot beat Tomahawks goalie Cooper Lukenda.
Just one minute later, the Tomahawks cut into the lead when Oliver Benwell tipped in a Cam Hebert pass for a 2-1 IceRays lead.
IceRays forward Hartikainen netted his second of the game at the 11:30 mark of the second period.
Once again, the Tomahawks cut the deficit in half when Chad Merrell scored his second of the season.
However, the IceRays would fire home three consecutive goals from Blake Bennett, Anthony Firriolo and Randall to take a 6-2 lead.
Prior to the end of the second period, Johnstown converted on the power play with a marker from Carson Brière. Benwell picked up the assist.
Corpus Christi added a goal late from Randall, who scored a hat trick, to set the final at 7-3.
The Tomahawks return to 1ST SUMMIT ARENA for the home opener on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Former Steelers wide receiver and Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward will be on hand to drop the ceremonial first puck. His appearance is presented by 1st Summit Bank, GapVax, Toyota and UPMC Health Plan.
