Tomahawks Drop Friday Night Contest Against Black Bears

The Johnstown Tomahawks drop Friday night’s contest against the Maryland Black Bears a final score of 3-1 on Friday night in Johnstown.

Bad blood between the two teams was evident early in the game as Will Bowman and Magnus Gadowsky got into it just 1:13 into the game. It was the Tomahawks got on the board first in Friday’s contest 4:34 in with a tip-in goal from Johnny Ulicny on Ethan Perrault’s initial shot from in the zone. Ulicny’s fifth goal of the season was the only of the opening period, giving the Tomahawks a 1-0 lead after the first.

Maryland responded early in the middle frame with a goal from Dimitry Kebreau shorthanded 1:56 into the period, followed by the go-ahead goal for the Black Bears coming from Luke Van Why five minutes later. With 3:53 remaining in the second, Branden Piku got his fifth of the season to put his team up top 3-1 going into the third period.

Despite the two power play opportunities in the third period, the Tomahawks weren’t able to get back in the game, falling by a final score of 3-1 on Friday night.

The Tomahawks and Black Bears face off again tomorrow night at 7 PM for Star Wars Night. We are teaming up with the Cambria County Backpack Project and collecting donations of non-perishable food items throughout the game.
