Tomahawks Drop Generals 3-2 in OT

Johnstown, Pa – The Johnstown Tomahawks hosted the Northeast Generals on Friday night in the first of three big games this weekend and it was the Tomahawks who defeated the Generals, in overtime, 3-2.

 

The first period saw both teams playing a physical brand of hockey.

 

Northeast was first to get on the board when they scored a goal from Louis Boudon at 1:38. Boudon’s fifteenth goal of the season was assisted by Colin Bilek.

 

Johnstown then tied the game at 13:57 with a goal from Mitchell Hale, and Joe Kile with the assist. The goal was Hale’s ninth of the season.

 

The teams continued to play physical, but the period ended with both teams tied at one.

 

The physicality continued in the second period.

 

Johnstown scored the only goal of the middle frame to take the lead, 2-1. While on the power play, Christian Gorscak scored his sixth goal of the season. The assists went to Carson Briere and Roman Kraemer.

 

In the third period, the Generals tied the game at 4:51 with a goal from Luke Perunovich. The goal was unassisted.

 

The two teams continued to battle through the third period but neither could get the go-ahead goal, so things went to overtime.

 

In overtime things ending quickly when the Tomahawks Ben Schmidling scored the game winner after a great individual effort from Carson Briere to get Schmilding the puck, setting up the game-winner. The second assist went to Toby Sengvongxay.

 

Jack Leavy picked up the win in net for the Tomahawks, his fifth in six games.

 

 

The Tomahawks have two more games at home this weekend. Tomorrow night is St. Patrick’s Day Party presented by Von’s United Beverage. Join the Hawks as they celebrate the Irish holiday with green beer and bag pipes.  It’s also Don Hall Bobblehead night.

 

Sunday afternoon is the 6th Annual Pucks & Paws game presented by Cambria Veterinary Care. Enjoy the action of a Tomahawks game right alongside your dog. Special dog tag giveaway for all dogs in attendance. $5 dog tickets and dog food drive benefit the Cambria County Humane Society. Tomahawks will wear specialty Pucks & Paws jerseys. The game will also feature a first intermission on-ice dog parade and puppies in the warehouse.
