Tomahawks Fall 3-2 at Final Showcase Game

Sep 17, 2022

The Johnstown Tomahawks fell just short to the Corpus Christi IceRays Saturday afternoon, dropping their final game at the NAHL Showcase 3-2.

Despite a quiet start to the opening period, Stepan Kuznetsov opens the scoring for the IceRays 13:45 into the game, which gave them a 1-0 lead to start the second period.

As time goes on, it seems as though the second period is going to end scoreless, but Dominic Foglia adds to the IceRays scoring late in the period to give them a 2-0 lead going into the third.

The Tomahawks seemed to have some life early in the third period as the puck crossed the line, but the goal was eventually called off and the game continued with the 2-0 lead. Johnstown got their redemption later on in the period as Johnny Ulicny scored his first goal of the season for the Tomahawks to make it a one-goal game with 6:30 remaining in regulation. Drake Albers then ties the game at two less than two minutes later. The IceRays respond right away though and regain the lead with a goal from Hans Martin Ulvebne with under three minutes to go in regulation. The fifth goal would be the final of the game, giving Corpus Christi a 3-2 win at the final day of the NAHL Showcase.

The Tomahawks get back to division play this coming weekend, September 23 and 24 as they head to Attleboro, Massachusetts to face off against the Northeast Generals for the first time this season.
