PHILADELPHIA – The Johnstown Tomahawks fought hard but couldn’t quite get their hands on their second win of this young season on Saturday night in a 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Rebels after a 3-1 loss last night.
Contrary to the night before, the Tomahawks were the first ones on the board in the first period on Saturday night thanks to a nifty breakaway goal from forward Adam Ondris (Olenczak, Klemm). However, the lead lasted all but two minutes as the Rebels would notch their first goal of the game with a tally from Ryan Bunting. The remainder of the period featured some back-and-forth opportunities with nothing of substance materializing.
The second period played out in a similar vein to the first frame with the Tomahawks striking first and early with a goal from Ryan Flaherty (Dabrowski, Aldrich), his third tally this season in just four contests. Doing his best to keep the lead for his team, Tomahawks goalie Daniel Heroux was outstanding in the 2nd period with several key saves. Ultimately the rebels would get the tying goal late in the frame with a goal from Ruslan Jalmadinov and that’s how the period came to a close.
The third period started just as you would think in a tie game with both teams playing solid defense not wanting to make any crucial mistakes. Eventually midway through the period the Tomahawks found themselves on the wrong side of a lucky bounce for a Rebels lead taking goal from Billy Sheridan. Six minutes later the rebels would add another goal to take a 4-2 lead with a goal from Brock Jones on the powerplay. In desperation mode, the Tomahawks pulled Heroux with 2 minutes remaining and Philadelphia forward Charles Panchisin would add some insurance to make it 5-2. Tomahawks forward Nick Jarmain wasn’t giving up that easy as he battled hard net front and got the Hawks back within two but ultimately fell short after 60 minutes.
