Tomahawks Fall On Opening Night

The Johnstown Tomahawks fell to the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks 2-1 to open the 2022-23 season Friday night in Connecticut.

The goaltending matchup of Matt O’Donnell for Johnstown and Adam Johnson for Danbury was showcased in the first period, with the goaltenders combining for 21 saves to end a scoreless 20 minutes. Both netminders showed out for their returning roles between the pipes for their respective teams.

David Matousek opened the scoring on the season for the Tomahawks just 1:28 into the second period, giving the Tomahawks the lead early. Danbury responded four minutes later with two quick goals from Luka Sukovic and Pete Lajoy, putting the Jr. Hat Tricks up 2-1 just like that. Tensions rose in the middle frame with a total of 38 penalty minutes between the two teams. Despite the penalties, neither team found the back of the net again and Danbury took their one-goal lead into the final period.

Both teams were held off the scoresheet again in the third period, as Danbury ran away with a 2-1 victory on opening night.
