Tomahawks Fall to Cross-State Rivals in OT

Apr 6, 2023

The Johnstown Tomahawks fall in overtime 2-1 against the Philadelphia Rebels, Thursday night.

Looking to continue their 5-game win streak and keep the playoff chase alive, the Johnstown Tomahawks were eager to stay in the win column against the Philadelphia Rebels on Thursday night.

Although neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period, the goalies stole the show making showstopping saves. Both the Tomahawk’s power play and penalty kill units saw action throughout the first 20 minutes of play. However, the Tomahawks would head to the locker room tied at 0. It was a pretty quiet second period with both teams hungry to break the ice. It wasn’t until 18:02 when Phildelphia’s Connor Sedlack struck first putting the Rebels on the board. After forty minutes, Sedlack would be the lone scorer of the game thus far and the Tomahawks would trail the Rebels 1-0.

The third period was explosive, to say the least with both goalies putting on a show. Finally, the Tomahawks would find the back of the net with Will Lawrence’s power-play goal that would tie the game at one at 5:43, with the assist to Gabe Lunn. But, 60 minutes would not be enough for these cross-state rivals and they would head to OT. Both teams played fiercely, but the Rebels would become victorious in overtime after Hamstad scores three minutes into OT.
