Tomahawks Fall to Generals In Overtime

Sep 23, 2022

The Johnstown Tomahawks fell to the Northeast Generals by a final score of 4-3 on the road Friday night at New England Sports Village.

The Tomahawks got the start they’ve been looking for on Friday night amid their offensive struggles as Johnny Ulicny and Drake Albers got on the board to give the Tomahawks a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Johnstown held the 2-0 throughout a majority of the second period until Northeast’s Paul Minnehan got the Generals on the board with just 3:33 to go in the middle frame. Alec Rajalin-Scharp stopped 25 of 26 shots faced through the first 40 minutes of the game in net for the Tomahawks, helping them hold their lead at 2-1 going into the third period.

Matthew DeSpirit and the Northeast Generals made things interesting towards the end of regulation, as they tied the game at 2 with 6:35 remaining, but David Matousek regains the lead for the Tomahawks on the power play with just 1:18 to go in regulation. David Andreychuk tied the game yet again for the Generals with just 9 seconds to go, sending the game to overtime.

Jake LaRusso netted the game-winning goal 27 seconds into the sudden death overtime, giving the Generals the 4-3 win in their home opener.

The two teams face off again tomorrow night live on HockeyTV as the Tomahawks look to split the weekend series against the Generals before the home opener in Johnstown on October 1.
