Tomahawks Fall to Rebels in 5-1 Contest

Johnstown, Pa – The Johnstown Tomahawks hosted the Philadelphia Rebels in a Sunday afternoon game at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial. Though the Tomahawks outshot the Rebels 23-14, they fell to Philadelphia, 5-1.
Philadelphia scored only 2:23 into the first period. After a slapshot from the point, the rebound kicked out in front where Eric Olson buried the puck in the back of the net. The goal was Olsen’s first of the season, and was assisted by Bryant Gunn and Auggie Moore.
Johnstown battled back and tied the game 1-1, at the 14:43 mark. Hunter Carrick fired a shot from the offensive blue line, and while engaged in a net-front battle, Alex Singley deflected the shot passed Ryan Keane. Carrick picked up the first assist, and James Furey had the second helper.
The goal was Singley’s first of the season.
The first period ended tied 1-1.
Philadelphia scored the go-ahead goal 3:01 into the second period., Carter Woolley picked up a loose puck and sped off on a breakaway, beating Johnstown netminder, Britt League. The goal was unassisted.
The play from there went back and forth with both teams exchanging quality chances.
About mid-way into the second period, Johnstown found themselves with a five-on-three man advantage. While Johnstown was able to keep the puck in Philadelphia’s zone for the whole power play, and put several pucks on net, Johnstown was unable to tie the game.
With a five-on-three of their own, Philadelphia scored their third goal of the game. Hugh Quinn blistered a slap shot from the high slot at 12:22 of the second period. Aaron Maguyon was credited with the lone assist.
The Rebels would take a 3-1 lead into the third period.
In the third period Philadelphia would take a 4-1 lead on a freak goal.
As the puck was dumped on net, League caught the puck and placed it on the ice in front of him. Somehow the puck slid backwards, between League’s legs, and just crossed the goal line. Brandon Stanley was credited with the goal as he was the last Rebels player to touch the puck before it went into the Hawks’ net. The goal came at 10:04 of the third period.
The Rebels would add another goal via a redirection in front. Brandon Stanley was credited with the redirect goal at 16:16. No assists were given.
Stanley’s second goal of the game capped the scoring and gave Philadelphia the win, 5-1.
In net for Johnstown, Britt League received the loss. He made 9 saves on 14 shots.
For Philadelphia, Ryan Keane picked up his second win of the weekend turning away 22 of 23 shots.
Tomahawks are back on the road next weekend when they travel to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights on October 20, 2017 and October 21, 2017. Both are 7:30 pm start times, and can be watched live at www.hockeytv.com
The Tomahawks next home game will be November 3, 2017 vs the New Jersey Titans. The home game is Movember Boys Night Out: Men’s health awareness night.
