Tomahawks Lose to Titans in Close Matchup Saturday

Dec 11, 2021

The Johnstown Tomahawks suffered a second defeat to the New Jersey Titans Saturday night, as the Titans came through 6-5 in a close, back and forth game.

Jacob Badal opened the scoring Saturday night on our Teddy Bear Toss night just 1:07 into the game, sending the 1,200+ stuffed animals flying out onto the ice. 1:47 later, Dusty Geregach made it 2-0 in favor of the Tomahawks as he netted his fifth goal of the season. After some extra-curriculars and a few offsetting penalties, the Tomahawks ended up with a power play. Braedon Ford found the back of the net just as the power play was about to expire, scoring his second goal of the season. Only 16 seconds after Ford’s power play goal, Chris Carroll scored the first goal of the game for New Jersey, followed by another from David Posma as the Titans had a quick turnaround to make it a one-goal game going into the 2nd period.

Anthony Calafiore tied it up for New Jersey at 1:58 into the 2nd period. Stephen Willey gave the Titans their first lead of the night at the 5:01 mark to make it 4-3. Then with 1:03 remaining in the 2nd period, Zack Murray tied it back up at 4, sending the game to the 3rd tied at 4.

Stephen Kyrkostas regained the lead for the Tomahawks 2:23 into the 3rd, scoring his tenth goal of the season. 3 minutes later, Michael Young tied it back up at 5. Just 1:19 later, New Jersey’s Marcus Sang scored what would be the game-winning goal for the Titans on Saturday night.

The Tomahawks head out to Maryland next weekend for two games against the Black Bears on Friday, December 17 and Saturday, December 18. The games will be available on HockeyTV.
