Tomahawks Mascot Announced

Aug 2, 2012

Chopper, a large hawk with bright red feathers, is the newest edition to the Johnstown Tomahawks.

While he won’t be lacing up the skates to play defense or shooting pucks on net, Chopper will be entertaining fans on the ice and in the stands this season as the team’s mascot.

There were audible cheers of excitement throughout the War Memorial Arena Thursday night as Team President Rick Bouchard and the winner of the Name the Mascot Contest, Jonathan Kane, revealed Chopper during the Tomahawks Select-a-Seat and Open House event.

Jonathan, a young hockey fan, submitted the name “Chopper” through the contest. The team received hundreds of great submissions, including several for “Chopper.” Jonathan was selected randomly as the Grand Prize Winner and will receive two complimentary full-season tickets.

Chopper will be present at all home games, as well as Tomahawks community events throughout the upcoming season. He counts as one more vital component of the Tomahawks’ vision to provide the fans with a fun and affordable in-game experience, as well as fast-paced and highly competitive hockey.

Chopper, members of the coaching staff, and players will be available for community events and public appearances. Please contact the Tomahawks office at (814) 536-4625 or visit our website
