Feb 24, 2022

The Johnstown Tomahawks secured a 4-1 win Thursday night at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA over the Maryland Black Bears. Thursday night’s contest was the first of a three-game series this weekend between Johnstown and Maryland.

Stephen Kyrkostas opened the game for the Tomahawks, making it 1-0 12:21 into the game. Less than two minutes later, Maryland found the equalizer with a goal from Brad McNeil. The game looked as though it was headed to the 2nd period tied at one, but Braedon Ford found the back of the net for the Tomahawks with just 4.7 seconds to go, to give the Tomahawks the advantage at the intermission.

Jake Black opened the 2nd period strong for the Tomahawks, scoring his 30th goal of the season 2:53 into the period to put the Tomahawks up by 2. Kyrkostas solved Maryland goaltender Michael Morelli for the second time Thursday night with 9:46 remaining in the 2nd period. His 17th goal of the season gave the Tomahawks a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd period.

Despite the opportunities both sides had to add to the scoresheet, the 3rd period ended scoreless, giving the Tomahawks a 4-1 final for the win Thursday night.

Game two of three this weekend will be Friday, February 25 with a 7:30 PM puck drop. We will also have a Free Shirt Friday giveaway, presented by 1ST SUMMIT BANK. Tickets can be purchased through the Tomahawks office in person or via phone by calling (814) 536-4625.
