Tomahawks Slip 2-3 Against Jr. Americans

Oct 7, 2023

The Johnstown Tomahawks suffered a 2-3 defeat against the Rochester Jr. Americans on Friday night

The Jr. Americans had a strong start in the opening period, scoring a goal just 3 minutes into the game. Zack Ferris received the nod as the starting goalie for the Tomahawks on Friday evening after coming off an impressive outing against New Hampshire last weekend. Both goaltenders made impressive saves for their respective teams. The Americans managed to score another goal. After 20 minutes of play, the Johnstown Tomahawks headed to the locker room trailing 0-2.

Trailing by two goals, the Tomahawks took to the ice for a power-play opportunity. Despite their efforts to score, the Jr. Americans’ goaltender stood firm, denying any attempts to breach the net. Halfway through the second period, the Jr. Americans increased their lead to 3-0. However, the Tomahawks managed to break through with a goal credited to Alexey Yarmulnik, assisted by Alex Legkov and Dylan Shane. The period would conclude with the Tomahawks still trailing by two.

Heading into the crucial third period with two valuable points at stake, the Tomahawks refused to give up. Tomahawks players launched a barrage of shots at the Jr. Americans’ goaltender but couldn’t break through. On the flip side, Tomahawks’ goalie Zack Ferris displayed a strong performance against the spirited Jr. Americans squad. With just three minutes remaining, Isaac Holt, a commit to Robert Morris University, finally managed to score with an assist from Will Lawrence. Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Johnstown Tomahawks ultimately fell to Rochester, with a final score of 2-3.

The Johnstown Tomahawks are set to take on the Rochester Jr. Americans in the second game of their weekend series tomorrow night at 7:30 PM in Rochester.
