Tomahawks Snap Win Streak, Fall to Black Bears

The Johnstown Tomahawks snapped their eight-game winning streak Friday night, falling 4-0 to the Maryland Black Bears.

Maryland’s Trey Scott opened the scoring 7:06 into the contest, followed by Branden Piku scoring six minutes later to give the Black Bears a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Piku then scored his second goal of the game and sixteenth of the season at the 7:59 mark of the second period. The rivalry between these two teams heated up in the second period with a combined 80 penalty minutes in the second period. Through two periods Friday night it was all Maryland as the Black Bears took a 2-0 lead into the third period.

The Tomahawks would be held off the scoresheet through the third period, but the Black Bears added on to their lead with a goal from Kaleb Tiessen with 1:23 remaining in regulation, giving Maryland a 4-0 win Friday night in Johnstown.

The two teams face off again tomorrow, February 18 at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA for the second and final game of the weekend. Saturday night’s game will be our Mental Health Awareness Night. Tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com.
