Tomahawks Split Road-Trip Against the Generals

Nov 5, 2022

After snapping their 3-game losing streak, the Johnstown Tomahawks were eager to stay in the win column against the Northeast Generals, Saturday night.

The Tomahawks got the party started with David Matousek’s third goal of the season, assisted by Dylan Scott at 3:07. Newly acquired Adam Johnson continued his warm welcome to Johnstown making multiple impressive saves throughout the first period. However, the Generals took advantage of 5-on-3 action after two Tomahawks were sent to the box and made it a tie game. Minutes later and with ten seconds remaining in the period, David Andreychuk puts the Generals on top, 2-1 heading, into the first intermission.

Right off the bat, the Tomahawk’s penalty kill unit went to work early in the second period. However, during the General’s power-play it was the Tomahawks who found the back of the net! Zach Aben tied the game with a short-handed goal at 2:06, his fourth goal of the season. The Tomahawk’s penalty kills unit was working overtime during these two periods and was able to kill off a 5-on-3 situation. But the Generals regained the lead after a Paul Minnehan goal with 9:54 to go in the second period. Northeast found the back of the net once more at 19:37 and added to their lead, 4-2.

Heading onto the ice, down two, and eager to complete a sweep the Tomahawks looked to take the lead into the final 20 minutes of play. Tomahawks saw an early opportunity after DeSpirt is sent to the box for interference but were unable to find the back of the net. However, the Generals snuck the puck past Johnson with a power-play goal at 6:17 making it a 5-2 game. At 10:15 Johnstown found some momentum with a James Barbour goal assisted by Nick Ahern. But the Generals got right back to and Jake LaRusso added his third goal of the game. Just seconds later Northeast added to the score, taking a four-goal lead. After a hard-fought battle, the Tomahawks would fall to the Generals, 3-7.
