Tomahawks Split Weekend Against Nordiques

Apr 9, 2022

The Johnstown Tomahawks split their weekend series on the road against the Maine Nordiques with a 6-4 win on Saturday night in Lewiston.

Just as they did on Friday, Maine broke the ice with Patrick Schmiedlin scoring the first goal of the game midway through the 1st period. The Tomahawks responded as defenseman Ethan Perrault tied the game less than a minute later, scoring his first goal of the season. Physicality took over in the late stages of the period and the teams went to the locker room tied at 1 after the first 20 minutes.

Jacob Badal gave the Tomahawks their first lead of the night with his eighteenth goal of the season coming on the power play. Johnny Ulicny and Jake Black then scored back-to-back breakaway goals, Ulicny’s being shorthanded, which gave Johnstown a demanding 4-1 lead going into the 3rd period.

Theo Thrun opened the scoring in the 3rd for the Nordiques with a power play goal 1:30 into the period, with a response from Badal getting his second of the game, also on the power play. Two minutes later Maine’s Zion Green scored again for the Nordiques, followed by a goal from Filip Wiberg, putting the game at 5-4 in favor of Johnstown with 12:51 to go in regulation. Egan Schmitt sealed the deal for the Tomahawks with an empty net goal, giving the Tomahawks a 6-4 win to end the weekend in Maine.
