Johnstown responded late in the second period as Gabriel Lunn scored his first goal of the season with 1:24 remaining in the second period, setting the scene for the third period.

The Tomahawks came out swinging in the third period with three goals in 6:14, with Will Lawrence and Tyler Chenevert also getting their first goals of the season, giving Johnstown a 4-2 lead in the later stage of the game. Kaleb Tiessen showed signs of life for Maryland scoring a shorthanded goal with 1:36 remaining in regulation. Johnstown held on to win the game by a final of 4-3.
