Tomahawks Sweep Nordiques, Extend Win Streak to Five

The Johnstown Tomahawks completed the weekend sweep of the Maine Nordiques with a 5-3 win Saturday night, extending their winning streak to five games. Alec Rajalin-Scharp was once again in net for the Tomahawks, making 31 saves in the victory.

Justin Rapp netted his seventh goal of the season just 2:07 into the opening of the game, getting the only goal of the first period to give Johnstown a 1-0 lead. Will Moore extended his goal-scoring streak to four games as he put one behind Nordiques netminder Kael Depape 25 seconds into the middle frame to give the Tomahawks a 2-0 lead. Maine found the back of the net for the first time on the weekend as Kellen Murphy scored 7:01 into the second period as they cut the Tomahawks lead to one. Will Lawrence responded in the later stages of the period with a power play goal, making it 3-1 Johnstown going into the third period.

The Tomahawks scored early goals in all three periods Saturday night as Nick Ahern netted his fourth goal of the weekend after a hat trick last night, coming 1:43 into the third. Filip Wiberg kept his team in it with two goals six minutes apart, but the Tomahawks responded as well as Lawrence netted a second goal, giving the Tomahawks a 5-3 lead to win Saturday night’s contest.

The Johnstown Tomahawks head out east next weekend for three games against the Philadelphia Rebels for their final road series of the regular season. Game one is Thursday, April 6 at 8 PM at Hollydell Ice Arena.
