Tomahawks Top Nordiques, Even Weekend Series

The Johnstown Tomahawks even up the weekend series with the Maine Nordiques Friday night in Johnstown with a 6-4 win.

Maine got on the board early as Laurent Trepanier scored 3:11 into the game. With just 25 seconds remaining in the period, Nicholas Bernardo tallied another one for the Nordiques to give them a 2-0 lead to go into the second period.

The Tomahawks got on the scoresheet in the middle frame as Will Moore netted his second goal of the season with 4:28 remaining in the period. Ryan Vellucci scored for the second night in a row on the power play with 1:05 remaining in the period to tie the game at 2 to start the third.

The third period was very back-and-forth as there were six goals between the two clubs. Zach Aben and Nick Ahern’s goals kept the Hawks in it and David Matousek came away with the game-winner with just 3:02 to go in regulation. Aben secured the win with an empty net goal as he scored his second of the game and tenth of the season, making it a 6-4 final for the Tomahawks Friday.

The two teams face off for the third and final time this weekend at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA tomorrow, Saturday, December 9 at 7 PM for Teddy Bear Toss Night. Bring stuffed animals to throw on the ice after the Tomahawks first goal. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.
