Tomahawks Win in New Year’s Eve Thriller

The Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Northeast Generals in their traditional New Year’s Eve game Friday night at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA.

Ryan Corcoran struck first 3:45 into the game, followed by Joey McGraw just under four minutes later to make it 2-0 Northeast to start the game. While the Tomahawks didn’t find the back of the net in the 1st period, Braedon Ford broke the ice for the Tomahawks in the 2nd, netting his third goal of the season 7:31 into the period on the power play. The Tomahawks tied the game in the 2nd with Egan Schmitt ringing the puck off the post and into the net for his fourth of the season, making it 2-all. Corcoran regained the lead for the Generals with 3:00 remaining in the period, scoring his second goal of the game, which made it 3-2 Generals. Just as the buzzer was about to sound, David Wilcox found the back of the net, scoring his second goal of the season, sending the game to the 3rd tied at 3.

Just when it looked like the game was headed to overtime, Sean Ramsay scored on the power play with just 2:22 remaining in regulation, netting the only goal of the period giving the Tomahawks the 4-3 win to close out 2021.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow night, January 1 for the first game of 2022. Tickets will be available at the door upon arrival.
