Weekend Preview: Back in the Friendly Confines

Feb 23, 2018

Your Johnstown Tomahawks are back at home after a long road trip and will take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights on Friday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday February 24 at 7 p.m. at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA @ Cambria County War Memorial.  This is the first home series for the Hawks since January 19 and 20 and the first series between these two teams since January 26 and 27 when Johnstown swept the Knights in both games 2-1 at the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

The Tomahawks are looking to end their recent struggles as they dropped their last two games to the Kenai River Brown Bears last weekend 3-2, once in regulation and the other in a shootout.  Sam Solensky continued to impress over the weekend, adding a goal and two assists to his overall point total, which now sits at 32 on the year.  Goaltender Jack Leavy held two solid outings despite the losses, stopping 37 of 40 shots in both games against Kenai River.

The Knights are coming off recent struggles of their own, losing both of their games over the last weekend against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in Alaska, 5-2 and 7-2.  Jack Olmstead and Matthew Kidney both lead the team in scoring with 38 points each.

Friday’s 7:30 p.m. game is Faith & Family Night presented by FCA of the Laurel Highlands.  Many church groups will be on hand to celebrate a night of faith, fellowship, and hockey!  Following the game, Tomahawks coaching staff and select players will be on hand for a presentation on their faith.

Saturday’s matchup is also the Tomahawks’ sixth annual Guns & Hoses Night sponsored by the Tax Lady, LLC and Advance Office Systems.  Prior to the Hawks’ 7 p.m. puck drop is the annual battle of the badges as local firemen and EMTs will face-off against local police officers in a game to benefit the Special Olympics.  Puck drop for the charity game is set for 4:30 p.m., and all fans with tickets to the night’s Tomahawks game will also be granted admission to both games.
